about

These are songs of hope and understanding for those affected by Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), Fibromyalgia (FM), Lyme, Gulf War Syndrome (GWS), Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME), Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS) and similar conditions. The songs deal with the reality of living with these conditions but the overall message is one of hope. All songs sound different: different styles and different singers. More songs will be added over time.

"I am Dean Brantley Taylor. I write the lyrics and some of the melodies. I got CFS-ME-Lyme in 1993. By 1999, I became too fatigued to work. I had to quit doing most everything else too. I even tried to stop listening to music because listening made my symptoms worse. I guess my subconscious mind didn't like this, so it started creating music in my head. This is some of that music."

There are videos for some songs and more videos are on the way.

Track Name: Storme - I Got This Thing
I Got This Thing
© 2010 by Douglas Campbell and Dean Brantley Taylor

I got this thing, I know it’s tough on you
Even though I never see you down
I got this thing, I know it gets to you
Lately, I’m wondering how

So I wanna know, do you sleep well at night
Are you worried we can’t win this endless fight
And does all of the bitter block the sweet
Can you still see the better side of me

I got this thing, I know it’s tough on you
Even though I never see you down
I got this thing, I know it gets to you
Lately, I’m wondering how

I’m sorry there’s times when I rant and complain
But just getting it all out helps keep me sane
I’m thankful that you listen tenderly
But this time you talk to me

I got this thing, I know it’s tough on you
Even though I never see you down
I got this thing, I know it gets to you
Lately, I’m wondering how

You know the bitter isn’t really all bad
Cause we learn a lot of stuff from the sad
So don’t keep hiding inside what you feel
I won’t break if you tell me what’s real

I got this thing, I know it’s tough on you
Even though I never see you down
I got this thing, I know it gets to you
Lately, I’m wondering how

800 Yards Around

North are a few houses
South is a park
East there’s some condos
West is a restaurant

This is where I go, these places that I know
It’s my entire view, I can’t go as far as you

I can’t walk very far, maybe about a half a mile
I can’t talk very long, I don’t say so much wrong
I mostly sit inside, I don’t go out of town
My whole world is about only 800 yards around

Birds fly by my window
Squirrels climb a tree
Dogs like to walk by
That’s about all I see

It don’t seem like much, but I got this girl I love
She’s my best friend, stuck inside my circle’s edge

I can’t walk very far, maybe about a half a mile
I can’t talk very long, I don’t say so much wrong
I mostly sit inside, I don’t go out of town
My whole world is about only 800 yards around

I’m tired everyday, it’s Chronic Fatigue
Chronic Fatigue, how’d I get this way
How’d it get hold a’ me
I don’t know, I don’t know
Medicine don’t help, I tried everything
How can this be, all this Chronic Fatigue

I can’t walk very far, maybe about a half a mile
I can’t talk very long, I don’t say so much wrong
I mostly sit inside, I don’t go out of town
My whole world is about only 800 yards around

I can’t walk, I can’t talk
I can’t walk very far
Track Name: Tricia Burnett - Hold A Little Hope
Hold A Little Hope
© 2010 by Tricia Burnett and Dean Brantley Taylor

Life can get troubled. Live enough and you’ll see
Things turn to rubble. It’s happened to me
But there’s something inside, something to trust
Something to hang on to, you know you must

And things will be better. You’ll find a new start
Be patient with time. Just do your part
And hold a little hope in your heart

Life is a puzzle. Some pieces don’t fit
It makes us struggle. Sometimes we quit
But don’t go down that road. Don’t take that left
Stay in the thru-lane. You know what’s best

And things will be better. You’ll find a new start
Be patient with time. Just do your part
And hold a little hope in your heart

A little ain’t much, just something to touch
In a bad time, a ray of sunshine
That will be enough

And things will be better. You’ll find a new start
Be patient with time. Just do your part
And hold a little hope, hold just a little hope
Hold a little hope in your heart
Track Name: Erin Gannon Simms - Faith
Faith
© 2010 by Regine Mary Watson and Dean Brantley Taylor

A strong start, a strong plan
I was gonna be a strong woman
No arrows, no enemies
Could ever get to me
It was a peaceful loving place
Back in those fearless days

Faith hold on, hold on to me
Faith hold on, tightly
Be my anchor in a dark and heavy sea
Hold on, faith hold on to me

Compromise, weakening
Feeling like my head is spinning
More hurry, more worry
Oh and all the waste
Gone are all my better days
All the easy ways

Faith hold on, hold on to me
Faith hold on, tightly
Be my anchor in a dark and heavy sea
Hold on, faith hold on to me

Hold on when I'm fading
Hold on when I'm failing
Hold on when I'm shaking
When fate just keeps on taking, taking

Faith hold on, hold on to me
Faith hold on, tightly
Be my anchor in a dark and heavy sea
Hold on, faith hold on to me
Track Name: Jamie Leger - Good Days
Good Days
© 2010 by Marc David Blackwell, Dean Brantley Taylor and James Edward Leger

Mary read the icing on her birthday cake
Forty-one just seemed too late
Once a prom queen, once a Junior Miss
Now feeling so old with no one to kiss

But she’s only halfway down her journey still
In forty more, she’ll have more thrills
She’ll dance the tango with just the right man
Forever, he’ll take hold of her hand

Good days come back again
Just hold on, just hang in
They’ve been here before
It’s not always so black
Good days, yeah
Good days come back

Johnny wrote a lyric for his latest song
“Glory days, glory gone”
Once a pop king, once a superstar
His fans forgot him. He’s fallen so far

But he always finds some dream left in his heart
It gives him strength, and he will restart
He’ll sing the songs that make the women cry
Once again, he'll bring tears to their eyes

Good days come back again
Just hold on, just hang in
They’ve been here before
It’s not always so black
Good days, yeah
Good days come back

Johnny married, finally, late in life
Never so happy, never so right
The lovely lady that he held so dear
It was Mary. He brought out her smiles
Brought out her tears

Good days come back again
Just hold on, just hang in
They’ve been here before
It’s not always so black
Good days, yeah
Good days come back

Good days come back again
Just hold on, just hang in
They’ve been here before
It’s not always so black
Good days, yeah
Good days come back
Track Name: Deb Thomas - I've Been OK
I've Been OK
© 2010 by Paul Dunne and Dean Brantley Taylor

I’ve been weak. I’ve been strong
I was lonely for so long
I’ve been free. I’ve been caged
I’ve been calm. I’ve been enraged
And I’ve run hard and barely crawled
I’ve gone far, yet sometimes stalled
I’ve lived some good days
I’ve lived some bad
But I’ve been OK, been OK

I never thought I’d find you
I never thought I’d find love
But now that I have, I think back
There’s one thing I’m not sure of
Would I still be OK
Without you, without you

I’ve been bored, then enthralled
Mistaken big for small
I’ve taken time, hurried too
I’ve been happy. I’ve been blue
But all the way, unbeknown to me
I got away, livin’ without you
I warmed in sunshine
I froze in rain
But I’ve been OK, been OK

I never thought I’d find you
I never thought I’d find love
But now that I have, I think back
There’s one thing I’m not sure of
Would I still be OK
Without you, without you

It’s taken so long to find you
I need you to stay
I don’t know what I’d do
If you ever went away

I’ve been scared. I’ve been brave
I’ve been secure. I’ve been afraid
I’ve felt peace. I’ve been stressed
I’ve kept it clean. I made a mess
And I done right and I’ve done wrong
I’d resist then play along
I’ve been rich
And I’ve been poor
But I’ve been OK, been OK

I never thought I’d find you
I never thought I’d find love
But now that I have, I think back
There’s one thing I’m not sure of
Would I still be OK? Would I still be OK
Would I still be OK? Without you, without you
Track Name: Lee Johnson - Fragile
Fragile
© 2010 by Lee Johnson and Dean Brantley Taylor

Cracks start showing, spots are getting weak
Fingers in the holes, some are bound to leak
Danger, danger, warning lights flash
Danger, danger, here comes the crash

Flashing, flashing, bright lights in your face
One flash away from your darkest day

Fragile, fragile
Stuck out too far from the edge
One tight rope underneath
Another tight around your neck
Fragile, fragile
Can’t withstand a fall
Fragile, fragile
You can’t stand much, can’t stand much at all
Fragile

Change comes faster, you can’t stay in one place
Can’t control the moves, can’t control your fate
Ringing, ringing, warning bells ring
Get all ready. Ready for the sting

Pounding, pounding, heartbeat in your chest
One beat away from nothingness

Fragile, fragile
Stuck out too far from the edge
One tight rope underneath
Another tight around your neck
Fragile, fragile
Can’t withstand a fall
Fragile, fragile
You can’t stand much, can’t stand much at all
Fragile

You’re heart feels like an egg shell
One slip, it’s done
You’re broken on the pavement
Frying in the sun

Fragile, fragile
Stuck out too far from the edge
One tight rope underneath
Another tight around your neck
Fragile, fragile
Can’t withstand a fall
Fragile, fragile
You can’t stand much, can’t stand much at all
Fragile
Track Name: Mary Gottschalk - Other People
Other People
© 2010 by Lucian Blaga and Dean Brantley Taylor

I felt alone. The sad, it grew
Most of my hope was gone. What could I do
So much torture, panic inside my head
So much fear to so much dread

And then, other people happened to me
Their friendship helped me see
Hope and happiness
Other people brought out all my best
Other people happened in

Stand alone to face them
That's what bravado said to me
And problems disappear
But for me to end fear
For me to move on and through
I'd need other people, too

And then, other people happened to me
Their friendship helped me see
Hope and happiness
Other people brought out all my best
Other people happened in

All their strength came through, without trying
They showed me what I had to do
With their faith in me, I was free
To start all new

Other people happened to me
Their friendship helped me see
Hope and happiness
Other people brought out all my best
All those friends who helped me
I’m so thankful
Other people happened in
Track Name: Dave Bradley - Where Imagination Is Real
Where Imagination Is Real
© 2010 by David Choi and Dean Brantley Taylor

I'd like to find a place to go
Where I can fall asleep on the snow
And I can swing from clouds to trees
With ideas floating by on the breeze

A place where imagination is real
With space to live out all I feel

Where every dream stays oh, so very clear
Where there's no suffering in fear
And reality can't sever now from forever

A chance to live in all of my dreams
With smells and touches ever lingering
On and on still feeling new inside
So I never have to get off the ride

A place where imagination is real
With space to live out all I feel

Where every dream stays oh, so very clear
Where there's no suffering in fear
And reality can't sever now from forever

Where I dance on top of purple mountains
Or frolic naked in the city fountain
Doing it big like I’ve always felt
Changing those cards that I’ve been dealt

A place where imagination is real
With space to live out all I feel

Where every dream stays oh, so very clear
Where there's no suffering in fear
And reality can't sever now from forever

Higher, flying with stars bright
Lighter, floating on moonlight

Where every dream stays oh, so very clear
Where there's no suffering in fear
And reality can't sever now from forever

Where every dream stays oh, so very clear
Where there's no suffering in fear
And reality can't sever now from forever
Track Name: Morgen La Civita - Take Off
Take Off
© 2012 by Morgen La Civita and Dean Brantley Taylor

Got no stake in the ground
No rope tying me down
Nothing keeping me around
It’s time, it’s time

It’s time to take off, eyes high
It’s time to take off, new sky
It’s time to take off
Spread my wings and climb
It’s time to take off, off

Feel my hope on the rise
My heart aching to fly
Spirit ready for the ride
It’s time, it’s time

It’s time to take off, eyes high
It’s time to take off, new sky
It’s time to take off
Spread my wings and climb
It’s time to take off, off

Oh I’m traveling light
Light as the air under me
I carry only my dreams
And a few memories

It’s time to take off, eyes high
It’s time to take off, new sky
It’s time to take off
Spread my wings and climb
It’s time to take off, off

It’s time to take off, eyes high
It’s time to take off, new sky
It’s time to take off
Spread my wings and climb
It’s time to take off, off
